Things I Wish I Knew Before My Unplanned C-Section
I was not prepared for my C-section...
After a failed induction and prolonged labor, things changed quickly and I suddenly found myself recovering from a C-section I never mentally prepared for. I had researched labor, packed for postpartum, and thought I knew what recovery would look like… but I ended up ordering a lot of things afterward that I wish I had already had at home.
Things I Ended Up Loving
Disposable Underwear
These were SO much more comfortable than I expected and honestly made recovery feel a little less miserable. I ended up wearing them way longer than I thought I would.

Abdominal Binder
I didn’t realize how much core support would help after surgery. This made getting out of bed, walking around, and moving feel so much more manageable during those first few weeks.

Panty Liners
Nobody prepared me for how long postpartum bleeding would actually last. I definitely underestimated how many liners I would end up needing. I just got the ones for a heavy flow so it didn’t feel like I was wearing a diaper for months.

Wound Closure Strips
The strips from the hospital started peeling off really quickly, and it honestly made me anxious especially because I already felt completely unprepared for C-section recovery. I ordered these afterward and personally felt way more comfortable and supported during everyday movement at home.
They were easy to apply and remove, and I liked that the kit came with 24 strips and accessories, so I wasn’t stuck feeling like I only had one backup option. Even though I bought them because of my C-section recovery, they also felt like one of those practical first-aid things I’d want to keep around the house now that we have a baby.

Scar Tape
Once my incision healed more, I started using silicone scar tape as part of my C-section recovery routine. I had honestly never even thought about scar care before because I didn’t expect to need a C-section.
I liked that it was soft, breathable, and nearly invisible under clothing, so I could wear it during the day without feeling like it was super noticeable. The customizable roll made it easy to cut a piece that actually fit my scar, and I liked that it was gentle enough for sensitive skin.
For me, it was just another way to feel like I was taking care of my body after everything it went through.

The Biggest Recovery Mistake I Made
Just because you feel better does not mean your body is healed.
I pushed myself way too hard trying to do everything, be productive, and act like “super mom.” I genuinely felt pretty good at first, so I thought I was fine… until I overdid it and ended up needing more stitches afterward.
Looking back, slowing down would have been worth it.
What I Wish Someone Told Me

Rest more than you think you need to
Accept help when people offer it
Prepare for BOTH vaginal and C-section recovery if you can
If something feels off, call your doctor and trust yourself
Not medical advice — just sharing the things I personally wish I knew 🤍
